The clip shared by TikToker @lauragraham3685, which has generated over 839,000 views and 109,000 likes, begins with a woman bearing a cheeky smile as she raises and lowers a pair of sunglasses over her eyes.
A message overlaid on the video read: “This is why I need to stop drinking.”
The video, which has not been independently verified by Newsweek, proceeds to show a listing of direct messages apparently sent to the Instagram accounts of various celebrities from Emma Watson, Sam Fender and Baz Luhrmann to Dolly Parton and Billy Ray Cyrus.
The screen then plays a voice note that was sent to Liam Payne’s Instagram account.
The message appears to begin with the words “Hiya Liam,” followed by a nonsensical string of words before the clip ends.
Alcohol intoxication, or “getting drunk,” causes impaired brain function, which can result in slurred speech as well as poor judgment, reduced reaction time, loss of balance and motor skills, says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The American Addiction Centers explains that slurred speech is a classic sign of being drunk, “so much so that doctors and police officers use this symptom as an indication that a person is very drunk.”
Alcohol enters the bloodstream and travels “all over the body,” including to the brain. While all parts of the brain are impacted by alcohol, some of these effects will be more apparent than others, the healthcare company says.
Stumbling and forgetting words are among the more immediate changes you can see after a couple of drinks.
So why does your speech get sloppy? The center says: “The temporary effect of too much alcohol is caused by the toxin’s interaction on neurons in the brain, mainly in the cerebellum.
“If you are out having a few social drinks with friends or coworkers, and someone in the group starts slurring their speech, it is a sign they should stop drinking,” the center warns.
The latest video has left several TikTok users in stitches.
In a comment that received 1,352 likes, Claire said: “I need to go drinking with you would be such a laugh.”
User LouiseB86: “Please don’t stop drinking ! We need to hear more of these !!”
Several were curious as to whether any of the celebrities read the voice notes left by the original poster.
Sara asked: “Did any of them reply or see your message [crying laughing emoji] I love these videos.” And 666 wrote: “more importantly, have you got any replies [crying laughing emoji].”
Newsweek reached out to the video’s poster, lauragraham3685, for comment.
