This viral sensation word puzzle called Wordle has spawned tons of different clones all over the internet, and it’s one of the biggest games of 2022 so far. It’s so popular that fans have been creating Wordle-themed everything from birthday cakes to Valentine’s Day cards and even getting engaged with Wordle puzzles. It seems like Wordle is everywhere these days. But if there is still anyone out there who has yet to play this massively popular game, here are the rules of how to play.

Head to the new Wordle website on the New York Times games site. Choose a starting five-letter English word and type it into the site. Hit enter. The letters will change color based on whether they appear in the word of the day or not. Green letters are correct. Yellow letters are in the word somewhere, but they are currently in the wrong place. Gray letters are incorrect. Using the colored letters as clues, players have six total tries to guess the word. There is only one Wordle a day; players have to wait until midnight local time to get a new word to try. After completing the puzzle, players gain access to their stats and a spoiler-free Share button. Stats are browser-based, so players will get accurate stats if they use the same browser and computer every day. Stats include play percentage, number of wins, and even a Wordle winning streak.
