Wordle is a browser-based game that can be played on just about any device. The ability to access it from anywhere and the ease of play have made this game quite the viral sensation in English-speaking countries. If word puzzle fans haven’t tried this little game out, though, they’ll need a rundown of all the rules.

This article is all about the New York Times games version of Wordle. While there are tons of copycats and other versions of the game, the rules and answers will most likely be a little different in other versions. Head to the site and type in a starting five-letter word. It can be just about any English word. The letters of the player’s starting word will change colors to give them a clue as to the real answer. Green letters are right. Gray letters are wrong. Yellow letters are correct but in the wrong place in the word. Using these clues, players have five more guesses to get to the real answer. Letters can be duplicated in the word, like the Vs and Is in “VIVID. " Puzzles reset at midnight local time every day.
If fans play the game on the same device every day, they will start to tally up some stats. Some stats players can expect to see on the menu are Wordle winning streak, guess distribution, and total puzzles played. This menu will also feature a spoiler-free share button that allows players to share just the colors of each of the blocks of their game board.
