Wordle is very easy to learn, but not so easy to master. The rules are pretty basic, but every word every day is a challenge. Here’s a breakdown of how to play and where to find this browser-based word puzzle game.

First, head to the New York Times Game website. This is the original version of Wordle, and all the hints and answers in this article will be about this version. Choose the best starting Wordle word. It should have some common letters and at least two vowels. Once a starting word is chosen, type it into the website and press enter. This will make the letter change colors. Gray letters are wrong, green letters are right, and yellow letters are correct but in the wrong place in the word. Players have six total tries to guess the word of the day with these clues. Wordle answers are usually the American spellings of words (like FIBER over FIBRE), can contain duplicated letters (as in VIVID), and don’t include a lot of potentially offensive words like slurs. The answers are not usually plural nouns ending in the letters either. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
If players use the same browser and device every day, they can use the stats menu to keep track of their win streaks, win totals, total puzzles played, and guess distribution. This menu will also contain the spoiler-free share button to help players share the colors of their game boards on social media without ruining the puzzle for everyone else.
