How to Play Wordle

To play the popular word game right now, folks will need to head on over to the official games section of the New York Times. From there, the rules are pretty straightforward.

Choose a good starting word and then press enter on the site. Based on the colors of the tiles, players will know how close (or far) they are to solving the word puzzle. If the tile turns green, that means the letter is in the word, and it’s in the correct spot. If the tile turns yellow, that means the letter is not in the correct spot, but it’s still part of the Wordle answer. And lastly, if the tile turns gray, the chosen letter is not in the answer and should not be used again.

Players will have a total of six tries to figure out the word of the day, and once the six tries are up, it’s considered a loss. If players win and get a streak after a couple of days, they can feel free to share their stats with friends by using the social tool on the site. There’s even a way for players to share their results for the day’s puzzle without spoiling it for people who have yet to log in.
