The game has exploded in popularity, becoming an online sensation with little sign of its popularity diminishing anytime soon.
Part of Wordle’s appeal is its simplicity. Each day the player has to work out a new five letter word in six guesses or less. After each attempt the letters light up, showing how accurate the predictions were.
If a letter goes green it is both in the word, and in the correct position. Yellow means it’s in the word, but has been put in the wrong place, whilst gray indicates it does not feature at all.
Speaking to Newsweek in January Wardle, originally from the U.K., revealed he first designed the game for his partner during the coronavirus lockdown.
He said: “When I designed the game, it was for me and my partner to enjoy, so I made sure that all of the entries were randomized. In other words, I don’t actually know what tomorrow’s word is going to be, which means that I can take part like everybody else.”
In the same month Wardle sold the game to the New York Times for an undisclosed seven figure sum. It remains free to play.
Since it’s launch Wordle has helped inspire a number of other online puzzles, including geography themed Worldle and math based Nerdle.
The answer to today’s puzzle will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll down with caution if you want to work it out for yourself. To help you solve today’s Wordle, Newsweek has provided some hints and tips on the latest puzzle.
