We already knew Portugal would be without star center back Pepe, who picked up a straight red card for head-butting German striker Thomas Muller while he was seated on the pitch.
Muller appeared to be feigning injury, trying to coax a yellow card out of the referee after being struck in the face by Pepe's wayward right hand.
The red-card ejection means Pepe is automatically suspended one match.
Coentrao, 26, started for Real in the Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid.
